Wood is the most important renewable raw material throughout human history. However, wooden archaeological objects are rarely studied and little is known on (pre)historic use of wood, compared to other materials such as stone and ceramics. The aim of this project is to make an inventory of wooden artifacts recovered during archaeological excavations in Flanders to facilitate future research of these objects. The information from the inventory will be made publicly available through the online database WOODAN. Based on this inventory, a synthesis will be made of wood use in material culture since prehistory.
